Toronto, Canada
Toronto is a city of modern glass towers absorbed into the diverse city streets of older detached houses in a rich jumble. Wide streets, natural topography and greenery add to the mix.
The Avenue is a residential tower of stacked homes in the sky. On the three exposed elevations, vertical courts a cut into the building faces increasing the girth for light and exposure. The lower floors have two units per floor, then single units occupy entire floors, topped by a two story penthouse. At street level is a tall gallery space.
Each unit is expressed as a unique residence in a vertical community, wrapped in the curtain walls of new tall Toronto, but with the singularity of detached older buildings in gardens that collide in this neighborhood.
